Season 2024/25
The 2024/25 season will forever remain in the hearts of the black&green fans as the year of rebirth.
The tough relegation to Serie B had deeply scarred the soul of the club and its community. However, the foundations of the Black&greens were proven to be rock solid. Sassuolo chose to start again with pride and identity and did so in their own way: with hard work, talent, and above all, unshakeable faith in their philosophy and roots.
Thus, from a terrible disappointment, an immense desire for redemption and revenge was born.
Right from the summer training camp, the goal was clear: to return to Serie A immediately to honor the club’s history, the passion of the fans, and the project built over the years.
The arrival of manager Fabio Grosso
Fabio Grosso, a World Cup winner as a player and already a successful coach in Serie A, was called upon to lead the team in this new challenge.
Grosso brought with him charisma, enthusiasm, and clear ideas. With him, Sassuolo immediately regained their confidence and identity, creating a united environment and a courageous team.
A championship full of challenges
The 2024/25 Serie B season proved to be a complex, hard-fought championship full of challenges right from the start, but the squad was made of talented players, the right mix of experienced players and youngsters eager to prove what they were made of to themselves and to the world.
It was therefore no surprise that the fans began to sing a timid and respectful chant from the very first games: “Jump with us, we’re going back to Serie A, maybe who knows… it might happen!”
That “maybe, who knows… it might happen,” both doubtful and hopeful, stayed with us throughout the season.
In fact, the first four games revealed some difficulties in adapting to the new league. The hard (1-4) home defeat against Cremonese was useful in understanding many things. After that game, and with the return from injury of Domenico Berardi, the soul of the team and technical leader of the team, Sassuolo managed to string together a series of 10 consecutive positive results (8W; 2D) that, towards the end of November, saw them top of the table after a 4-0 win against Salernitana.
The strength of the group at key moments
The road to triumph has not been without obstacles: the nasty away defeat against Pisa reminded everyone how tough and long Serie B is.
But it is in difficult moments that Sassuolo have shown their true colors. The comeback victory against Cosenza, which came in the dying moments with goals from Moro and Lipani, was emblematic. It was a hard-fought match that turned into an explosion of joy and awareness: the awareness of being a team ready to fight until the last second to be back in Serie A.
The second half of the season as leaders
The second half of the season saw seven more positive results (6W, 1D), interrupted only by a defeat in La Spezia (2-1), results that allowed the team to go into the decisive match against Pisa with a comfortable 5-point lead over second place and 12 points over third place in the standings.
The match against Pisa at Mapei Stadium is undoubtedly one of the most memorable games of the season. In a tense atmosphere, the Black&greens won 1-0 thanks to a goal by Moro, assisted by Berardi. It was a performance full of character that strengthened their lead in the table and paved the way for promotion to Serie A.
A triumphant season
The wait for the return to the top division, became an exciting and predictable countdown that ended “on the couch” on Sunday, April 13. Mathematical promotion to Serie A came five games early with a spectacular 3-1 victory in the derby against Modena, in front of a packed black&green crowd, followed the next day by Spezia’s draw in Mantua.
And that wasn’t all. Sassuolo continued to run, score, and win, securing first place and the Serie B 2024/25 title, marking a fitting end to a triumphant season for the Black&greens.
The numbers speak for themselves: 25 wins and 78 goals scored, the best attack ever in a 20-team Serie B season. These figures confirm a promotion built on talent, hard work, and determination. Those who followed Sassuolo throughout the season, day after day, are well aware of the effort and difficulties overcome, but also of the passion and commitment that made this fantastic ride to Serie A possible.
The 2024/25 season is not just the story of a return to Serie A. It is the story of a club that has transformed a wound into strength and disappointment into a desire to be reborn. It confirms that Sassuolo Calcio is not just a team: it is an idea of football, an identity, a family.
We’re back. Right away. With style. And deservedly so.
