Nemanja Matić, welcome to the black&green family!

U.S. Sassuolo Calcio announces the signing of Nemanja Matić until June 30, 2026, with automatic extension for the following season under certain contractual conditions.

Serbian midfielder of great international experience, charisma and quality, called “The Wolf”, Matić brings leadership, temperament and a successful career in black&green. Born in Šabac on August 1st, 1988, he grew up in the academies of Stella Rossa and Partizan before taking his first steps among the “seniors” with Jedinstvo Ub, the Black&greens of Kolubara and VSS Košice, the latter club with which he stood out until winning his first national team.

In 2009 he moved to England with Chelsea, where he immediately won his first FA Cup. After a stint at Vitesse and three great seasons with Benfica, he returned to the Blues in 2014 under the lead of José Mourinho, with whom he won two Premier Leagues, a League Cup and collected over 120 appearances between league and European competitions. In 2017 he moved to Manchester United, debuting in the European Super Cup against Real Madrid and becoming a Red Devils pillar with more than 120 appearances. In 2022 he moved to Italy with Roma, meeting Mourinho again and playing a high-level season that culminated in the Europa League final. Later he wore the jerseys of Rennes and Lyon in France. His career showcases extraordinary numbers and trophies. Among these, 251 appearances in the Premier League, 107 matches in European UEFA competitions, 48 appearances with the Serbian national team and a series of trophies of absolute value such as 3 Premier League, 1 English Cup, 1 English League Cup, 1 Portuguese Championship, 3 Portuguese League Cup and 1 Slovak Cup. Matić has also twice been named Serbian Footballer of the Year.
With an exceptional record, the Serbian midfielder is the most titled player ever to play in black&green.
