Aquilani begins his coaching career in July 2019 with Fiorentina in the Under 18, but soon becomes part of Giuseppe Iachini’s staff in the First Team.
Starting July 2020, Alberto becomes Fiorentina Primavera’s manager, winning the 19/20 edition of the Coppa Italia Primavera and repeating the achievement in the following two seasons, when he also managed to conquer the two respective Supercoppa. At the end of the 22/23 season, Aquilani is nominated Primavera “Coach of the season” after reaching the third place in the regular season and the second place of the playoffs.
At the beginning of the 23/24 season he joins Pisa in the Serie B, concluding in 13th position with 46 points, and after stopping for one year he joins Catanzaro. With the giallorossi 59 points and 5th place: after getting past Avellino and Palermo, the playoff final against Monza ends in a draw across the two matches, but it is Monza that get promoted to the Serie A because of the higher place in the final standings.
Veronica Squinzi, Chief Executive Officer of Mapei and Vicepresident of Sassuolo Calcio, commented:“I’m very pleased with this choice. It actually is a warm welcome back, since Aquilani wore neroverde in 2017. Since then we both have grown and I think that, together, we can write new and exiting chapters in the history of our club In realtà, si tratta anche di un gradito ritorno, visto che come calciatore ha indossato la maglia neroverde nel 2017. ”.
The club wishes Alberto the sincerest welcome back and best of luck for the start of his new neroverde journey.
